Photographing Emma Stuart
As part of my continued studio sessions with UK models, I recently became aware of Emma Stuart who, despite only being a model for a short time, has already amassed a big name in the industry with a significant social media following and a lot of photographer interest. Having met her now, I can understand why!
We exchanged a little dialog in an attempt to arrange a shoot together and we later realised she was booked in for a session one day in September at The Boardroom Studio. So, we both spoke and wondered if we could extend her session there for a couple of hours with me. Happily, that was all made possible thanks to the most wonderful Phil who runs the studio.
I explained I was just after a handful of nice portrait shots and happily that is what she was hoping for too.
We had a great couple of hours together with a few laughs and a kindred appreciation of the same kind of music - the legendary Evanescence, as it turned out!
Emma came well prepared with an array of outfits. I hope she was not too disappointed when I explained that all I am especially interested in is the eyes and hands but I hope and think she quite liked having free reign over the wardrobe choices and hopefully now understands what I meant, now she has seen the photos and seems to have liked them.
We exchanged some interesting stories during our time shooting. I typically spend more time chatting with my sitters than I do photographing them. In my years of taking photographs, I find the results are better when the person sitting in front of you actually enjoys being there. I am not saying I am the life of the party by any means, but I do often find that my sitters are not resistant to sharing discussion with me, which is nice. It is a great way to spend some time, and when the photos come out epic, that makes it feel all the better.
Below are a small sample of my favourites from our shoot and I hope to have her with me again. She has already agreed to be one of my models for my "Classic Car Tour" photography sessions that I am planning for 2025 - see here for details and sign up if interested.
