Photographing the Beautiful Creatures Clothing Brand
A few weeks ago I had the immense pleasure to be part of a shoot for a new (launching soon) gothic inspired clothing brand, Beautiful Creatures in London.
The lady behind the brand, Aga, is very much inspired by the same kind of mysterious, grand, bewitching, mildly haunting looks that I am, and her clothing line is very much inspired by her family roots and history. So, given my style and position as a photographer who seeks to work with brands that align with my own style, this felt like a great opportunity for us all!
We planned a date, which happily coincided with a date that a model she has worked with before was visiting the UK. Volodina was in London for a few days (which meant I knew I had a long day ahead of me driving there and back in the same day!), so we arranged a shoot at the business studio of Beautiful Creatures where we not only conducted the photoshoot, but I also got to see Aga in action literally sewing garments as I photographed her other clothing items on Volodina. It was quite the afternoon!
It was a really delightful experience. While Aga was preparing outfits and doing her thing, her colleague, Danara, was also working in the background filming some Behind the Scenes footage of the photoshoot.
The shoot comprised several outfits and I used a variety of lighting to provide the Beautiful Creatures line with a mixture of photo styles that I hoped would suit their needs - so there was a little window light photography, there was some shoot-through-umbrella soft light photography, some Softbox medium contrast light photography, and some die hard ultra high contrast Fresnel light photography!
After the shoot, I had to pack up all my things and then drive the 4 hours back up north back to my base in the East Midlands. So I left home at lunchtime, arrived at the studio around 16:00, left the studio at around 20:00, and got home by about midnight! What a day!
The following day after a few hours sleep (I was too excited to stay in bed!), I developed all 12 rolls of Kodak Tri-X, hung them to dry, and pressed them overnight. Then the next day, I digitised them all. So by early the following week (Tuesday night) the client had all the pictures, and so too, did Volodina, both of whom seemed really happy with the output.
If you'd like me on the set of your next product photoshoot, please reach out to me and lets see how I can help bring your unique business above the noise. I am well connected with a number of the UK's top professional freelance models, several studios in the East Midlands, and have a good number of model references, so I can arrange a shoot easily and quickly for you.
