Kodak Film - Now Available to Buy Online

I am delighted to announce that after several months of dialogue and based on my long relationship with Kodak Alaris since around 2019, I have been accepted as a UK stockist and retailer of Kodak professional films.

As an established studio portrait photographer here in the UK, I have become quite well known for my creative and mysterious dark portraiture, building good networks with studios, models and several brand names. I am therefore thrilled to now be able to make the same film that I have used in the studio for professional photography available to other customers.

There's a lot of talk recently about "the film look", and a lot of digital techniques such as "film presets" to give modern digital photography that nostalgic film look. Personally, I do not think they are actually representative of the film look at all. More often than not, they replicate the everyday shooting style that many amateur photographers of the 80s had because most of us were not actual photographers! But, we didnt have technology like iPhones back then so we all did our best with the only option that was available to us. But these modern preset packs are not "the film look". They just mimic the "amateur photography look" of the 80s.

Proper professional film like Kodak Tri-X, Kodak T-MAX and so on produce world class images and require, just as proper digital photography does, someone who is actually skilled in photography to make it really sing. But even for those of us that are still learning, using film is an amazing experience. It makes us think about what we are doing, it helps us learn and understand development methods, and the true magic of lighting on particular film emulsions.

The Kodak line of professional films excel in almost all areas. They have great ability to be pulled or pushed and are pretty much bullet proof. World class images can be achieved with just a little understanding, and perfectly good and nice images are achievable without even thinking about it.

In the short term, I intend to sell the fine Kodak black and white films - Kodak Tri-X 400 and Kodak T-MAX 400. Depending on how I get on, I will probably expand my stock offerings, but I wont run before I can walk! And of course, I will continue to buy film myself from the retailers I have always used, and you should visit them too as they all have wider stock offerings. Analogue Wonderland, LensFayre, AG Photo Labs, and The Darkroom UK are all places I recommend (amongst others) if I don't have stock, or if they suit you better for any number of reasons. I am more interested in community than competition and I hope my entry to the film retail business will be met the same way.
